Today on Fresh Air Teri Gross refused to be another cog in the book tour industry. Gross asked tough questions about Dole's role in smearing John Kerry's war record. Dole complained that he was on to talk about his book. He went on to say that 260 Swift Boat Vets couldn't have been wrong and blamed Kerry for talking too much about his wounds. Gross then asked some tough questions about Tom DeLay. Dole again complained.
Two lessons:
- Dole is a poltician who understands, like most of today's Republicans, that you should say whatever it takes to win. Do not buy into the "grand old man" crap that most of the media endorses.
- Teri Gross is a gem. She is as good as it gets as an interviewer in today's media environment. We may not be happy with a lot of NPR today but she is a reason that everyone should give money to a public radio station.
Keep your eyes on the prize.
