So over at CNN I just read
this story.
Here's the headline:
OKEECHOBEE, Florida (AP) -- A woman was arrested for allegedly forcing her 12-year-old daughter into prostitution and trading a 14-year-old daughter for a car.
Follow me below the fold for the rest...
The youngest girl and her mother were living out of their car, and would sell sex for food and an occasional shower at the men's homes, according to a report by Okeechobee County Sheriff's Detective K.J. Ammons.
The youngest daughter is three months pregnant, the report said; she was 11 when her mother first forced her to have sex with a man. The older daughter refused to be a prostitute and was allegedly sold for a car.
It's amazing what people will do - to themselves and their children - in order to get by in this world.
I would expect to seem more stories along these lines as the economic "recovery" continues. If those gloomy scenarios from Bonddad and others turn out to be true predictions, who knows...we could have a story like this every day on CNN.
But, hell, wouldn't that distract the people from what's going on in DC? Don't the repubs want us to just be able to scrape by, so we don't have the time or energy to think about politics?
Looks like they've succeeded, at least for this family. God help us all!
Oh, and I don't want to get started on the possibility of this 12 year old having an abortion (thank god they're still legal, for now), or the severe mental problems both of these kids will suffer in the future. My head would explode if I did.
Aside from all of that it sounds like the 12 year old is taking this as only a kid can, for the moment that is.
The youngest girl told detectives her mother took them out of school. "She said she was a good student and made A's and B's, and all she wants to do is go back to school," he said.
God help those two, they're going to need all the help they can get in the years ahead.
