The Republicans in the Senate have successfully reinforced the notion that Republicans love war, but hate Veterans.
Yesterday, while debating the additional $80 billion requested for the Republican "Holy War", some democrats attempted to add some funding the cash strapped Veterans Administration. This bill, introduced by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) was to add an additional $2 billion (1.975 to be exact) in funding for them to treat the 10,000 + vets that have been wounded in this war, rehabbed and sent to the VA. Do the math, that is 2.5% of the total spending bill, and less than a .5% of what we tax payers have doled out so far for this war.
Murray's proposal was defeated in a 54-46 vote, mostly along party lines.
This is a subject I am well versed in, because I am a disabled veteran, I was injured on the job (Not wounded in combat like these brave guys are) rehabbed, found to no longer be fit for military duty, and discharged. No health care, no job, nothing but a ticket to where they found me, Tampa Florida. I sought out the VA, because I was far from being at 100%. Thanks to the care I received in the VA (on-going) I was able to find work, get the healthcare I desperately needed, and can now say that I am a productive member of the United States. So this issue hits home for me, I am not just some liberal spouting off at the mouth, I live this issue everyday, and will live it for the rest of my life, all because I wanted to serve my nation, sadly the current republican administration and congress no longer wants to support me, or others in there time of need.
So I ask, why do you support the war, but loath the warrior? What haven't they done for you?
Republicans have made it clear that the warrior can screw off, as soon as you are no longer fit for military duty, they are done with you. You are the shell casing of that last round, and you are forgotten before you hit the ground. Cuts to veterans training, increases for prescriptions, a fee to use the benefit they were promised, and now this.
This administration has made me sad to be an American. They have used manufactured patriotism to support the war, robbing the true heroes of the glory they have earned. Relegating the sacrifices forced upon them by Bush to a magnetic ribbon bumper sticker. These men and women need to be taken care of long after they leave the battle field, long after they leave the military, and this current administration refused to do it.
Shame of you Bush, Shame on you Republicans.
