Today the House of Representatives voted to end the estate tax, which has existed for nearly 90 years.
Only one Republican voted to retain the estate tax, while FORTY-TWO Democrats voted to END IT. This is about ONE in FIVE Dems in the House.
What is wrong with our party that it would consent so willingly to more benefits for the wealthy? The greater deficit that will be created now will result in greater calls to reduce spending on social programs as well as higher interest payments on debt.
But perhaps I have spoken too soon. There is a hope that a filibuster in the Senate could still halt this measure. But it will take one Democrat, perhaps Evan Bayh or Max Baucus, to come to his senses from his previously voiced opinion on this issue.
Here is the House vote breakdown. If your Dem congressperson is on here voting YES, they should hear from you!
