Quite a while back, during the first term of the Dubya, Tom Tomorrow drew a "This Modern World" cartoon where the liberal character is complaining...
"I am outraged by the determination of an unelected President to drag us into an unnecessary war! And I am outraged by his assertions that we will not "pass our problems" along to future generations -- when he's the one proposing a trillion dollar deficit over the next 5 years."
[Punchline below the fold]
The poor fellow continues...
"And I am outraged that Enron and other corporate scandals have effectively been swept under the carpet. And that Dick Cheney still hasn't made his energy task force records public. And that the SEC has actually just weakened accounting industry oversight."
It continues in this vein until the poor liberal collapses still spluttering. Sparky diagnoses his problem as "outrage overload. It happens a lot these days.
(See the actual strip here)
The joke is funny because it's so true! Everyday I read Dail Kos, often checking the site two or three times a day. So many diaries! So much to know, so many new outrages.
What do I mean? Here's a sample ripped from today's dKos headlines:
Or how about a few from Salon and the wire services?
I mean it's really too much. The Bush gang, are wearing me down.
More?
How about:
Bankruptcy legislation written for the credit card companies.
Tom Bolton (right wing lunatic - Ambassador to the UN, an organization he publically disavowed)
Matt Hogan (acting director of US Fish & Wildlife Admin and member Safari club - hunters of protected species)
Fox News and Matt Drudge
Rumsfeld
Wolfowitz
It's insane.
How do you cope?
