Well alot of people on this site have shown interest in Canadian Politics and while some think that an election is coming and Canada will take a big step to the right because of it.
In some ways this is true in others it is not. We have 4 main Parties
Liberals: Lean Left Socially, conservative with economics.....basically mind set of most Canadians. But they are seen as worse then Tom Delay by alot of people....dirty, dirty dirty, becasue they have been in power so long.
Conservatives: Lean Right Socially and Fiscally, have some wing-nuts and some okay candidates but they are the most right wing party in Canada, no gay marriage etc.
NDP: Lean Left on everything, great ideas but seen as having lack of managment experience.
Bloq: Lean Left on everything....nice guys but they don't want to be in Canada, they want to leave and form another country. Imagine a California seperatist party having 20% of the seats in the Congress?
More below the fold.
Canada has 308 seats the party with the most sets has the prime minister and sets the agenda. (one becomes speaker of the house)
Liberals : 135
Conservatives: 99
Bloq: 54
NDP:19
Independants: 1
if an election happened April 14th
Liberals: 89
Conservatives: 120
Bloq: 65
NDP: 35
Independants: 3
So right now 208 of the seats are from Left leaning parties. If an election happened today there would 185 Left Leaning and 120 right leaning MP's, so don't worry to much.....we'll be okay.
But then won't you have a Conservative Prime Minister that will set the agenda....nope I bet the Liberals and NDP get together to form the government as a coalition.
But even those these numbers are bad now.....they will get better and the Liberals will improve...don't worry wing-nuts in the US will be able to call Canada, Canuckstan for a long time to come.
