I never thought I'd have to say those words in my life but after spending 10 mins on the American Library Association web page I soon found out I was living in a different world.
www.ala.org
on book burning specifically:
http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bookburning/21stcentury/21stcentury.htm
Now I'll give you three guess as to the type of organization that would participate in a book burning....if you didn't guess fundi's the first time your new to Kos. While this isn't happening everyday it's happened enough to make me scared take a look at the site and worry about you children.
I think this can be a wedge issue for us I believe that at least 50% of republicans are against burning books. I also believe that the religious right is tied to the Republicans and I think if we can tie the religious conservative to book burning you get guilt by association.
Just so happens a Republican has given us an opportunity.
More below the fold
CBS has a article about a Republican in Alabama:
http://cbs5.com/topstories/topstories_story_117000521.html
He wants to ban gay books, not only that gay authors!!!!!! Wow why would this be, so that they can't infect our youth with there gay disease?
Here is a quote:
"republican Alabama lawmaker Gerald Allen says homosexuality is an unacceptable lifestyle. As CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann reports, under his bill, public school libraries could no longer buy new copies of plays or books by gay authors, or about gay characters.
"I don't look at it as censorship," says State Representative Gerald Allen. "I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children."
Books by any gay author would have to go: Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote and Gore Vidal. Alice Walker's novel "The Color Purple" has lesbian characters. "
Apparently he wanted to ban some Shakespear but found out public support would only cover gay books and authors being banned. Cross dressing in Shakespear just wasn't enough and people thought it was too much of a classic.
I don't even know where to begin with this.....number one replace the word gay in this article with black, female or disabled and you'll start to understand why I feel upset about this. I'm not gay I don't understand why this guy is not in jail or at least kicked the fuck out of the republican party. If the republican party of Alabama votes on this and it passes we should be asking McCain, Guilliani, Bush, Delay and Frist why the republican party of Alabama wants to ban gay authors? Then ask them if they liked the color purple.
My god how is this person a public figure and not some speck in the hate section of the internet.
Sorry for the rant but how can this be happening and who would support this......I think this type of thing can be wedged even the MSM wouldn't be able to give this guy fair play time.
