When our Gov. Johanns resigned to become Bush's Ag secretary, our Lt. Gov. took over. He's been on the job since mid January and Democrats were happy we actually had a shot next year against this five-foot unknown. Several state senators and a past congressional candidate were mentioned as challengers.
However..... this afternoon Congressman Tom Osborne announced he was running for governor. Now remember, Tom Osborne coached Nebraska football for 25 years and brought home national championships before he retired and went to Congress. Folks, this is a state where we get over 60,000 people to nearly fill the stadium for the spring practice game. I'm not saying Tom could beat God himself in a vote here but God might need some electronic voting machine help if you know what I mean. Osborne will not accept PAC money or contributions over 1K. He won't have to. He won't even have to campaign. He won his last election with something like 87 or 89%. Any hope we had of getting the governor's chair back is similar to Army's chance of beating NU on the gridiron (the old NU teams). :)
