I just got home from being a part of a rally to remind California's Governor/Terminator that promises are supposed to be kept.
This is what happened... with pictures.
Rally 'round the flag.
We held a hour-long rally to ask Governor Schwarzenegger to keep his promises to education in Manhattan Beach, CA,this afternoon, first in the parking lot of Mira Costa High School's admin building, then along the street, Artesia Boulevard, to garner support from the passing commuters. Last year, the Governor borrowed $2 billion from education to help balance the state budget, with a commitment to pay it back this year. Unfortunately, the budget looked worse this year and he's trying to avoid bringing education funding back to the threshold established by law. California is one of only three states where public schools are funded by the state, not by local property taxes.
The event was announced to the public in the local Los Angeles paper, The Daily Breeze, on Tuesday.

Before taking to the street, there were several speakers: the organizer of the rally, School Board member Amy Howorth; the local school district's superintendent, Dr. Gwen Gross; and a teacher from Mira Costa, Carol Matthews. The PTA presidents and union leaders from the District's schools were introduced. Two City Council members, Mayor Joyce Fahey and Nick Tell, and representatives from the offices of State Senator Debra Bowen and Representative Jane Harman were also in the crowd.

I didn't take any pictures while I was participating.
Most passers-by honked enthusiastically after they read the first signs lining their way home.
I took these pictures of the die-hards while I was waiting for my home-bound bus at five.
Help us out by writing a letter to the Governor.
The Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger
