Religious Orders Demand 'Make Poverty History'

A star of TV reality show The Monastery joined more than 1,000 monks, nuns and friars at Westminster today to lobby their MPs as part of the Make Poverty History campaign.
Father Christopher Jamison was a member of a delegation calling on the Government to adopt a sense of balance and restraint in its policies and to address the plight of millions of poverty stricken people across the developing world.

Pope meets with Schiavo parents
Vatican, May. 18 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) met with the parents of Terri Schiavo at his weekly public audience on May 18.
Bob and Mary Schindler attended the Pope's Wednesday audience, with a spot near the front of the crowd in St. Peter's Square. When the Pope mingled with members of the audience, he shook hands with the Schindlers, and Mary Schindler presented him with photos of their daughter.

Strong hope for release of Italian hostage in Afghanistan
Kabul, May. 18 (AsiaNews) - Authorities in Afghanistan are confident that they will soon secure the release of an Italian relief worker who was abducted as a hostage on May 17, the AsiaNews service reports.
Msgr. Giuseppe Moretti, the head of the small Catholic sui juris mission in Afghanistan, told AsiaNews that "authoritative sources are hopeful" that Clementina Cantoni will be set free. Msgr. Moretti, the pastor of the country's only Catholic parish, said that he had "great hope" for the release of his parishioner.
