I was waiting for this afternoons open thread, but since there isn't one, (yet) I decided on a short diary about the descrepancy of male and female reproductive research.
This is, or would be, a simple commentary on the state of medicine re: sexual dysfunction.
Why does it seem that womens medicine, for the most part, is the bastard child of research for mens health? The following articles illustrate what I'm talking about. The articles in their entirety weren't interesting enough (IMO) to post the link, so I just pasted the pertinate details with attributation to the site..
(From Yahoo.com - news)
The first drug formulated to treat premature ejaculation delayed climax and increased reported satisfaction in a late-stage study, its developer, Johnson & Johnson...A Phase III clinical trial of 2,614 men showed the drug provided "significant improvements in sexual function, including ejaculatory control, satisfaction with sexual intercourse for men and their partners, and increases in intravaginal ejaculatory latency time,"
Yeah for men. That means all us who accepted these men in our lives, loving them no less because of their medical condition, will now have to go to the negotiating table and find out exactly how much sex these new-made power machines think they're gonna get.
<sarcasm> Thanks, Doc </sarcasm>
On the other hand, just in case you are a female with dysfunction problems (not the ones attributed to frigidity, lesbianism, or just plain being a bitch) they didn't forget about you. Here's some crumbs...
(From hisandherhealth.com)
Female sexual dysfunction is beginning to be treated by use of medications that are being developed for male sexual dysfunctions. Apomorphine for male sexual dysfunction will have a role in female sexual dysfunction as well. Viagra and Vasomax will have similar female sexual dysfunction treatment use. Expect newer and more exciting drugs for female sexual dysfunction to grow from the research in male sexual difficulties.
You'd think that men would be using their ingenuity to help women acheive the same sexual satisfaction that is attainable for them. After all, don't they know that they happier their woman is, the happier they'll be?
