As the Senate debates the nominations of Owen, Brown, Pryor and even Bolton we have to encourage our Democratic Senators to continue to reveal the true history (rather than the "likes puppy dogs" Republico glossy version) of these nominees.
Our Senators must explain their actions and the ramifications of those decisions in all their gory detail -- actions like Priscilla Owen v. Willie Searcy and those of Bolton which Sen. Voinovich has now described in a letter to his 99 colleagues.
If they don't, the media will have no reason to cover this history ... and it's this history that earned these extreme nominees a block (or a filibuster) in the first place.
This gets back to the notion of
"Political Economy" which Markos posted (vis a vis comments) on the front page the other day. We can do things piecemeal or we can set an overarching value system in place which lets Americans know, in one fell swoop, what Progressives stand for.
Besides, although clearly not all the Right-Wing Conglomerate Media will cover what progressive Senators say in their floor speeches, and others in the RWCM will twist and deform the statements, there are still good reporters out there who will honestly and factually cover the statements in whole or in part. Some may even decide to act like journalists and follow-up, rather than f-up.
So, please contact your Dem Senators and encourage them to discuss openly the reasons Owen, Brown and the others caused such a rancor. If they don't do it, who will?
