Well, My new senator has finally done something worth while. John Thune, the Republican Senator from South Dakota has stated he will oppose the Bolton nomination. He has hinted that it is a protest vote against the closing of Ellsworth AFB. How this is actually a protest, escapes me, but when have Republicans ever made sense?
See below the fold for the Keloland News Report.
From Keloland News.
"Senator John Thune says he would vote against the nomination of John Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations, hinting his vote is a protest against the Pentagon's recommendation to close Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City.
But Thune did support his party on the vote that mattered most. Republicans needed 60 votes to end the Democratic procedural delays and move to an immediate final vote on Bolton's confirmation. Thune and 55 other senators, four shy of that threshold, voted to end the stalling.
Now the final Bolton vote will probably not take place until June. Thune says saving Ellsworth is inseparable from his work in the Senate.
Thune says, "It's something that has become a great preoccupation of mine now.""
