Oh, my Allah! Spread the word to the rest of the Conspiracy on your Lefty-phones! Someone be sure to call Osama! David Horowitz has found out about our unholy alliance to destroy America! Run for your caves, so that we may hate America from the confines of our refuge rather than a jail cell!
David Horowitz is insane. I don't mean "eccentric" or "a little unbalanced." I'm talking "standing on the street corner waving a sign proclaiming 'The skies will rain cheese! The end of times is here, repent your glory for the squirrel is upon us!'" crazy. This can really be the only possible explanation for this piece at Frontpage where he screams, for all to hear, "There is an Unholy Alliance!" If you decide to go and read it, please, for the sake of your brain cells and your sanity, put on a tinfoil hat first.
Horowitz's fanatical "Israel above all" and "Globalization is good for you!" zealotry place him in direct opposition to the Left that he was once a member of. Frankly, having seen him speak (I was "privileged" to witness some of the birthing pangs of his nascent movement to destroy higher education as a bastion of liberalism), I suspect that he was so disappointed with his compatriots' descent into radicalism that it drove him to become rabidly opposed to anything they might support. It is a similar pattern seen in the likes of Irving Kristol and his fellow travelers (form Trotskyites turned founders of neoconservatism). Ah, but I digress. On to the Unholy Alliance!
Horowitz devotes the first third of the piece to touting the success of his book "Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left" and slinging ad hominem attacks at his unnamed detractors. Of course, he can't help but flog the dead horse of "The Left hates America and wants it to fail!", whose poor, fly-ridden corpse he has humped, beaten, and otherwise gnashed into unrecognizability over the past few years. Perhaps most shocking is that Horowitz cannot, cannot, cannot let go of the goddamn Cold War! He has applied his ideologically warped lens to the "network" of agencies opposing such myriad policies as unnecessary war, the Patriot Act, and torture and false imprisonment at Guantanamo Bay and come up with a common denominator: Communists! And as we all know, where there's Communists, there's Islamic terrorists!
Talk about your dead horses.
He then reaches in and takes British MP George Galloway's words to Iraq News Network happily and completely out of context. For example: "They have the same interest in opposing savage capitalist globalization which is intent upon homogenizing the entire world turning us basically into factory chickens which can be forced fed the American diet of everything from food to Coca-Cola to movies and TV culture." Galloway's point was that many Muslims see globalization as exporting U.S. culture at the expense of their own, and that they are natural allies to those who oppose Bush Administration policies, since those policies are highly pro-corporate. Of course, naturally, all Muslims must be Islamic fundamentalists and therefore terrorists. No self-respecting Muslim could be distrustful of America and NOT be a terrorist. Which of course means, anyone sympathetic to that view must be a terrorist-sympathizer.
Horowitz is so fantacial, so zealous, so stark-raving mad that he would equate questioning of American policy with hating America. And of course, since the Left is opposed to Republican policies, they must logically then, in his twisted, tiny mind, be opposed to America. This is what passes for a damning indictment in Horowitz's book: "The shared antipathy for the United States between open self-declared enemies like Galloway and Zarqawi and "liberals" who detest both is what allows liberals -- like the Wall Street lawyers mobilized by Ratner -- to be recruited to the destructive agendas of the anti-American jihad."
Ah, so, since Galloway doesn't like the U.S.'s policies, and Zarqawi not only doesn't like the policies but wants to kill Americans, they must be the same! And since the Left is opposed to some of the more extreme policies and their enactors, they must not only be just like Galloway, but must want to kill Americans too! At the very least, we are seen as enablers because we are not willing to buy in to his "evidence."
Someone needs to up their Zyprexa dosage, post haste. How far gone to be people have to be to believe this hokum? Loyalty to one's ideology is one thing, but active demonization speaks to whole new levels of fantacism. The human mind is not meant to bear the burden of such zealotry, Mr. Horowitz. Do your blood pressure and the rest of us the favor of taking a very, very long vacation. Preferably somewhere without internet or phone access.
