I didn't happen to see any other diaries on this so here goes (I'm sure if I'm in error I'll be corrected...)
While our "Boy Governor" was in Japan making nice with Toyota (howdy Toyota! thanks for the hybrids!!) our Democratic Attorney General convened a grand jury and subpoenaed a bunch of state computers including BlackBerrys.
The AG, Greg Stumbo, is investigating charges that the hiring system under Fletcher (the guv) was blatantly partisan. Some of the emails that the party workers sent to each other would rather seem to confirm this.
This is a source of much jollity round these parts (well, my living room anyway). Kentucky is a hardcore red state with plenty o'evangelicals and those fun megachurches and all that implies. We have that fun guy Mitch McConnell as one of our senators and the cardboard Jim Bunning as another.
However, in our last election for governor we elected our first Republican governor in 30 years. This governor immediately began producing gaffes for laffs, such as secretly installing a secret door so he could avoid the press.
He has also nominated one of his aides to the kentucky supreme court, even though the man in question has no prior experience as a judge.
Right before the story broke, some state employees received a memo about confidential information that said, in part, "All employees shall shred or otherwise-destroy any documents containing confidential or sensitive information."
The latest, as of this morning, news is that a bunch of GOPers are setting up a defense fund for themselves and their buddies.
It's interesting to watch this unfold. It's got all the elements of your typical GOP imbroglio. They are constantly crying politics, trying to go on the offense, hiding behind their money, being blatantly self-serving and all in all being completely disgusting, as per usual.
There seems to be scandal permanantly attached to these guys. WHEN will they FINALLY go away???
