No, really. I, in the singular, embody everything the Dem Party should stand for. I am pro-choice, pro-gun, anti-WTO, pro-union, pro-tax, anti-war.
This means the rest of you should fall in line. No more supporting those anti-women pro-life politicians. No more speaking against gun ownership, no matter how big and pointless the guns may be. All you that don't mind businesses here competing in the global economy, step aside. Same for you that think that unions were too powerful, and should be tossed. And don't get me started on taxes. If you think that deficits are OK, don't let the door hit you in the ass as you go. Any hawks in here, get the fuck out or I'll throw you out myself.
Do I really think all that? Find out below.
Of course I don't. But what I've see here lately is a lot of people who do.
Enter the NARAL parade. Or the Liebermans in sheep's clothing. How about those Pennachio supporters?
What I don't see happening, however, is these people wising up. Take the Pennachio diehards. Yea, it's great to support an alternative primary candidate. I'll be supporting him in the primary myself. But saying that you won't vote at all if Casey gets the nom? Now that's just flat out stupid. Casey may personally be against abortion, but when will people get that it's the D in the column that is bigger than a single issue. Would a Dem senate ever propose, let alone pass through anything restricting abortion? If you need me to answer that question, I'll order a short bus for you to take home.
Likewise, while I'm for the ownership of guns, and have some of my own, so you would think my stake would be opposed to the Ds. But I'm not a single issue voter, and moreso, I believe in moderation. I don't hunt, I keep them because I have become increasingly paranoid about the level of nationalism (read: jingoism), and am taking the appropriate steps in my mind. I can see why anyone would want to own a gun in this day and age. But I can see why not letting violent felons own guns might be beneficial. I can see how people don't see the reasoning behind using a fully-auto AK47 for deer hunting. Therefore I vote Dem, because I know that while I'm a little out of the mainstream, a Dem gov't that fears for their jobs wouldn't try to "take everyone's guns".
How long will it take us before single issuers finally realize that the best way to get anything done is to support a majority that will actually do it, instead of supporting the one for the other side, that will simply dissent while his party runs roughshod over whatever issue you hold dear.
Single issue politics never got anyone anywhere as a Dem. As a party, it's pretty safe to say that we would rather bring people together. Wedging divides. Lately, there has been a push to simply remove the wedges that seperate us from them. Choice is one of them. I disagree with this, and it will be changing in our elected officials, but that's something that will take time to change.
Though I am feverently, passionatly pro-choice, I will be voting for Casey, should he win the nom. To do anything less would be letting Sackoshit win. I vote, knowing full well what his stances are, knowing that he will be a net gain, and once the Dems are in charge, I won't have to worry about his abortion views.
You don't like it? I won't hold it against you personally, but don't bitch when your pet issue gets hit by a truck.
