The Left Coaster]
Rove attacks as expected and Chuck Schumer responds like an utter wimp (also see C&L). This is the problem with the Democratic Party.
Let me modify Mr. Rove's words a bit as a response. Here's what Rove would have said if he had spoken the truth instead of being an anti-American shill for criminals:
Liberals saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war against the real enemy (Al Qaeda); neo-conservatives such as myself first slept soundly at the wheel and let 9/11 happen. After we saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks, we realized we had to lie repeatedly to cover up our incompetence. To ensure that the country would never be safe again (so that we can exploit the media's brown-nosers who portray us as strong on national security even though the truth is exactly the opposite) we decided to focus on the wrong enemy using a pack of lies and sent our troops to battle....
[...continued after the fold...]
After all, we are far too chicken to risk our own lives on anything to do with saving America. Unlike liberals who wanted to attack the enemy and hold them accountable, we believed there needs to be some understanding for our real attackers - so we diverted our military to fight someone who did not attack us thereby allowing our real attacker to go free, while issuing chickenhawk-cowboy pronouncements about him being wanted "dead or alive".

I don't know about you, but moderation and restraint is what I really felt when I watched the twin towers crumble to the ground, a side of the Pentagon destroyed, and almost 3,000 of our fellow citizens perish in flames and rubble, for some of the most fervent thoughts among the most senior members of my Cabinet was to attack a person who had nothing to do with 9/11 - as the most appropriate response. It took some liberals (and maybe even some real conservatives), including some from across the ocean, to keep reminding us again and again (to no avail ultimately) who the real enemy was.

Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year? Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Fox News now broadcasts the words of the various Republican shills for criminals to the whole world, condoning, excusing, minimizing or endorsing torture (something President Bush's military has prosecuted as a crime), thereby putting our troops in far greater danger. Why? Because, it's not enough that we led to the deaths of over 1700 troops and tens of thousands of civilians to fight a war on false pretenses - a war that we were always chickenshits to fight on our own. It's not enough that as a result we increased international terrorism to record highs and turned Iraq into the biggest breeding ground for terrorism in the process, thereby endangering America dramatically for at least a generation. No more needs to be said about the motives of us neoconservatives.
Thank you all for listening.
