From the CBC:
"Former hostage William Daugherty said he's convinced Ahmadinejad was among a group of ringleaders escorting a Vatican representative during a visit in the early days of the hostage crisis.
""It's impossible to forget a guy like that," Daugherty told the Associated Press. "Clearly the way he acted, the fact he gave orders, that he was older, most certainly he was one of the ringleaders."
"Daugherty said the revelations put the Bush administration in an interesting position.
""You know how he said, 'You're either for us or you're for the terrorists.' Well, now the leader of Iran is a terrorist.""
...and the Shah wasn't? the U.S. was harbouring the Iranian dictator wanted for trial in his home country... more below the fold...
i don't support the taking of hostages in protest of the U.S. harbouring Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, but is this not another example of the pot and the fucking kettle?
from Wikipedia:
"He abolished the multi-party system of government so that he could rule through a one-party regime (under Rastakhiz) in autocratic fashion, which he claimed was a response to the Soviet Union's support of Communist uprisings, through Iran's leftist Tudeh Party. The Shah authorized the creation of the secret police force, SAVAK, infamous for its ruthless persecution of dissidents."
... but since those dissidents were Muslims or Communists, they just don't count, right?
this guy winning was a gift to the Bushies. this could even be spun out to the scale of pretence for invasion... (sigh)... the Foxes of war will have a field day.
pot and fucking kettle!
