We're starting a new event initiative tonight called "Coalition Concerts" in NYC. If all goes well, we want to start it up in other cities.
The concerts will promote a progressive issue (Fair and Independent Judiciary, for example). Groups promoting that cause table at the event; there will be speeches promoting the cause; a portion of the door goes to the Coalition and a bucket will be passed for donations to the effort.
The cause will be one that a range of progressive groups are engaged in (hence the "Coalition") so all groups feel immediately how this collaborative effort benefits everyone -- and promotes the spirit of cooperation.
The coalition of organizations along with the bands are helping to promote the show -- on their sites, over their lists, etc.
It's a great win-win situation -- and it's fun, promotes unity, gives more people (like non-active concert-goers) an easy first step.
We had a "warm-up" Coalition Concert at The Tank last Saturday and it was a success. Money was raised, a crowd attended and -- just as important -- a good time was had. People left entertained and engaged.
Here's the announcement for tonite - hope to see some NYC Kossacks!
