Like trading Salvador Allende for Augusto Pinochet...
Or Water for Chocolate as we say....
Well, I know we all thought the road of the low president poll would lead us to Iran, it seems they want to come down Latin America way. Güey, please pick another huckleberry.
The Christian Coalition founder and Christianist political activist Pat Robertson said on his television show Monday that it's time for the United States to stop Venezuela from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism.''
Muslim extremism? Venezula is more Catholic than the pope, my good sir. Roman Catholic 96%, to be exact. And as for communists, they do provide aide to Cuba, but that is because they hate to see a people starve. They are democratically-elected socialists, you know, like Sweden or Norway. Do we need to topple them, too? Do not confuse socialist compassion for communist schemes, but saying that just might get you killed. Right, Robertson?
"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club.
I find this incredible, really insane actually. You may ask yourself, why would we even care what Chavez is up to? Here is the answer:
Venezuela is the fifth largest oil exporter and a major supplier of oil to the United States. The CIA estimates that U.S. markets absorb almost 59 percent of Venezuela's total exports.
Since the other oil valve of Iraq looks to be going Islamic Republic on us, the shilling charlatans are obviously looking now in the old Monroe Doctrine zone. Being in Latin America, I know we were behind the the 2002 coup. The poor elitist bastards we put in got hogtied when they realized an Irish film crew was there shooting Chavez as the subject of documentary. It turned into the revolution that was not only televised, but discredited almost instantly. Well worth the watch, Chavez: Inside the Coup (2003) (TV) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363510/
The look on our puppets faces when they realize some 2 million people had risen out of the countryside and were on their way to the capital to restore their democratically elected president, Hugo Chavez, is priceless.
See, Chavez has some crazy idea. The wildest one is that his country's revenue from oil should go to education and universal medical care instead of some US Oil company's pocket. He also believes that the Iraq War was illegal, and he ain't afraid to tell you that. This outspoken position, and his quest to get basic goods and services into Cuba for a people in dire need, have made him a villain.
But since he is doing Jesus's work by helping the poor, what does our major religious pundit say:
"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," the Associated Press quotes Robertson as saying. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. ''It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war . . . and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
Woah there cowboy. You want to destabilize one of the few truly functioning democracy in South America, just because they think their most important asset is their people and not our oil companies CEOs? You want to kill a democratically elected leader, who has survived a couple of our coups, just so you can make sure the sweet sweet crude keeps coming? You want to cut off the health care, education and meal programs for a sea of poor people?
Mr. Robertson, I dare say, do you even remember what Jesus's gospel of love is anymore? Or has the Great Satan removed the blood from your heart and replaced it with oil?
