I've been watching developments in Crawford with interest. For me it's the best example of the disconnect between the Administration's supporters and the facts of an issue. On one side we have a grieving mother who is asking her President "Why". On the other side are the Administration supporters whose answer seems to be "Because the President says so." Obviously, there is a disconnect. It's been that way for five years. There are some who ask basic, responsible, and relevant questions, which must be asked and answered if we ever hope for democracy to work , and there are those who refuse to ask the hard questions. With respect to Ms. Sheehan, the questions is simply, "Why are we in Iraq?"
The most recent reason Mr. Bush gave, which has been commented on before but deserves repeating, is that we have to continue fighting this war in order to honor those who have already died. We are going to honor the dead by killing more of them for no other reason than to honor those who have already died? What sort of silly, pathetic logic is that. This guy went to Yale? If I was Yale, I'd ask that he return the diploma, because he certainly hasn`t been using it since he got out. This poor little graduate for Eastern Illinois University knows Mr. Bush's most recent logic is the dumbest reason to date for explaining why we remain in Iraq, although I anticipate updated reasons shortly. If you haven't noticed, they change quite often, depending upon the weather, the audience and the direction of the wind.
