I'm
likin' this Rachel Maddow. She's like the utility infielder of progressive media.
She seems to be subbing this week for Al Franken on Air America and she's pushing the biggest question of the day, 'Where are the national Democratic leadership in the anti-war movement?' She's taken good, thoughtful, often critical, calls and she's not wavered from her strong position that we need to be discussing this stuff openly. Do we call for an immediate withdrawal or do we demand a time-table? One of the weaknesses of the progressive personalities I've heard so far have been their wishy-washiness when faced with direct criticism. Ms. Maddow is polite, but does not waver. I like that. It's what we need from our voices. Personally, I agree with her, Bush has mismanaged the situation so badly that staying is not doing any good. We need to get our people out and see if some better leadership can fix it without having 140,000 targets in the theater.
Oh, and I have to say that the song just recently played as a segue tune on the Al Franken/Rachel Maddow show is just brilliant. I've heard a call for new protest tunes. That's a song that has been going around in my head ever since I first heard it. It resonates so strongly with my anger with this administration. It's Richard Shindell's song "Big Muddy" off of his most recent album 'Vuelta'.
