"I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. They did appreciate a serious storm but these levees got breached and as a result much of New Orleans is flooded and now we're having to deal with it and will," he said.
Update [2005-9-1 9:34:42 by nomadic]: Viktor found the Reuters story that summarized the statement made by Bush on Good Morning America today, 9/01/05.
"He defended the federal government's response so far to the growing crisis amid urgent pleas for help from stranded victims. He said the breach of the levees that led to the submerging of much of New Orleans had not been anticipated."
If anyone has this Good Morning America on their Tivo, please post it! I can't find the direct quote anywhere.
On the radio this morning I'm pretty sure I heard Bush say, "No one anticipated the levees breaking."
Did he actually say this while it has been talked about for years in a general sense and in specific, days leading up to Katrina's landfall?
And so close to the 9/11 anniversary, doesn't it sound just like "No one anticipated terrorists crashing planes into buildings?"
Is anyone in the press going to call Bush on this new lie today?
