Just heard from a friend who lives in a little town west of New Orleans and works in Baton Rouge. She and her immediate family came out ok, but she lost relatives in NO. Baton Rouge apparently came through ok, but is now crowded with refugees. From her email:
It's just not pleasant down here right now in Baton Rouge, because all of the folks from New Orleans are coming down here and it's a lot of car-jacking, robbing and stealing and also killing that's going on.
So all we need right now is prayers and more prayers! I just got my electricity back on yesterday.
We did survive that terrible hurricane but some of my relatives in New Orleans were not so fortunate. It's just so sad right now, we have relatives staying with us so our homes are like overcrowded and hot, we're running out of food also. But I'm trying to be strong for my daughter.
Just thought you all wouldn't mind some unfiltered news from the front lines.
