I was curious how people felt about the situation in New Orleans. I would appreciate your vote and input. Below is a post I made before Katrina made landfall. I thought it reflected common sense. Apparently no one in charge thought the same thing.
If Katrina Hit's New Orleans head on it will be a disaster. As everyone has mentioned, New Orleans is below sea level. What many do not know is that the pumps that would be used to pump the water back over the dikes would ALSO be under water and thereby USELESS. There would be no way to excess the major Emergency services or utilities. Add to this the Rain runoff hundreds of miles inland will only flow down the Mississippi to continue to flood New Orleans so water levels will not recede simply because Katrina has moved inland.
It is imperative that the elderly, poor, and infirmed are given aid NOW to get out of the area. It will be too late after Katrina hits. If these individuals are not killed out right in low lying areas near the coast upon landfall, they may not get the life saving aid or rescue after Katrina hits.
