Just when I couldn't get any madder.... d$#%*(t!
Apparently if you are a far right whacko, anything that comes out of your mouth is ok. First, Denny says that we shouldn't rebuild one of the largest ports in the world and now we get another prime example of "compasionate" conservativism at work
Texas Nearing refugee capacity, governor says
That's right. In the alledgedly great state of Texas, there may not be anymore room at the inn. Just listen to this.
Houston -- With more than 220,000 hurricane refugees camped out in Texas and more coming, Gov. Rick Perry warned Saturday that his enormous state was running out of room.
"Texas is committed to doing everything it can to help our neighbours from Louisiana, but we want to make certain that we can provide them with the medical care, food, shelter, safety, education and other services they need to start getting their lives back together," Mr. Perry said in a statement. "Local officials are beginning to notify us that they are quickly approaching capacity in the number of evacuees they believe they can assist."
About 18,500 survivors were housed in Houston's Astrodome and an adjacent meeting hall. More than 120,000 refugees were in 97 shelters in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and dozens of smaller cities across the vast state, Mr. Perry's office said, with another 100,000 in hotels and motels. Uncounted more were in churches or private homes.
Buses continued to arrive at the Astrodome, where many were redirected to other evacuation centres after people were processed and evaluated for medical conditions.
Now I know the Governor of Texas has virtually no power in and of himself, but he could do things like call on hotels to offer up places for people to stay, even just for a short while. Or perhaps make a call to more of his "faith based" organization to go out and do something that vaguely represents what the Bible teaches them.
Aren't there a bunch of military bases in Texas too? I'm sure with all of the troops in Iraq, there are a couple of extra cots there.
To be fair, Texas has done a lot, at least until the Astrodome is needed for something more important than handling displaced people. Until then, we must show them that just because your belongings are gone and your family is displaced, there is still room to sink lower.
