the
latimes tells us that the
cafe du monde is still standing in the french quarter.
the famous coffee house, home of the terribly fattening yet very worth it beignets (kind of a french donut without the hole) was left intact by katrina.
as was the acme oyster house, where skippy has enjoyed more than one plate of crawfish and oysters. and the french market and st. louis cathedral both also escaped relatively unscathed.
the sad news is, the times reports the fate of the preservation jazz hall is unknown at this time, as is that of anne rice's former home. st. charles street was pretty damaged as well.
and commander sue reports (in our comments section) that the n'ahlins zoo planned ahead, and lost only 3 of their 1,400 animals.
skippy can't wait to get back to the big easy and sip some coffee and munch a beignet as he watches n'awlins go by at the cafe du monde.
