All morning, every news program has been talking about the "next big problem" -- getting out the people who refuse to leave. Dozens of families have been interviewed at their homes -- houses that have not been that damaged, some have generators and hot water -- and I am getting angrier and angrier.
If they don't want to leave, if they want to stay in their own home in their own bed with their family members and pets -- certainly they can see the circumstances around them -- WHY CAN'T THEY STAY? One family, when asked where they got their food, said "We sent our son down to market (?) yesterday to buy some." What's going on? I think we know....
We can not let Bush force these people out of their homes. I have a terrible feeling the homes -- some of them are historic shot-guns over 100 years old and not very damaged -- will be mowed down. Bush and the military are exaggerating how bad living will be for these people if they don't move out. And even if it IS bad, if these people want to chance staying, LET THEM, it's their choice. What, suddenly Bush is so concerned about saving lives???
If they don't move, I guarantee you BushCo. will MAKE the conditions worse. They will purposely take their sweet time draining the water out and will make sure there aren't places available to get food and water.
I honestly believe the ONLY hope we have in retaining a bit of the distinctive New Orleans character is to stop them from FORCING every last person to leave so they can hand the controls over to Bush and the military and Halliburton.
WE MUST ALL CONTACT Gov. Blanco and tell her not to be intimidated by BushCo. -- if the people want to stay, please let them stay.
I've looked at the Louisiana Government's website but could not a way to email her -- does someone here know how to contact her?
Oh, another thing, Harry Connict Jr. was on the Today show and said there were places in the French Quarter that had no damage whatsoever -- a bar was even open yesterday with people stting in there drinking! Also, the people still there put on a parade through the quarter yesterday!
IS IT REALLY AS BAD AS WE ARE BEING LED TO BELIEVE? Contact the LA Gov. and tell her to stand up to Bush (and the Mayor).
