The question given to you, the poll-taking public:
Source
I want you to rate, on a scale of 1 to 10, the job done by people involved in the Hurricane Katrina story. For each person I name, please rate them from 1 to 10, where 10 means this person has done the best possible job any human in this position could have done, and 1 means this person has done the worst possible job that any human in this position could have done. OK? If you have not heard of a particular person, or have no opinion, press zero.
In the hot seat: Mayor Nagin, Governor Blanco, Governor Barbour, Homeland Security director Chertoff, FEMA Director Brown, General Honore, and President Bush.
Who looks fine and dandy and who looks like sour candy? Look under the fold!
First up is Mayor Nagin. The Mayor, who is the current scapegoat for the right, has the following score.
12% of people felt that the Mayor did the worst job possible.
13% of people felt that he did the best job possible.
Let's go to the scorecards, where 1 though 3 is "bad", 4 though 7 is "average" and 8 though 10 is "good"
26% of America says "Bad Job" to the Mayor. 35% comes down as "Average" and 35% says "Good job"
Moving on to our next contestant. The Governor of Louisiana, Governor Blanco. She's been under fire from the right, and also criticized by the Mayor. How does she score?
13% gives her a 1, 7% gives her a 10.
Overall:
Bad - 28%
Average - 41%
Good - 24%
Governor Barbour is next up.
He gets a 1 from 5%, and a 10 from 8%.
Overall:
Bad - 11%
Average - 42%
Good - 33%
Probably the best (overall) for an elected official in this poll.
Next up, Director Chertoff.
The Director, who is deservedly under fire, gets a 1 from 23% of respondants, and a 10 from 5% of respondants.
By now, those of you reading results should know that at least 5% of America just presses 1 or 10 for everybody.
Overall Chertoff:
Bad - 42%
Average - 33%
Good - 18%
And next up is FEMA Director Michael Brown. Brown was unable to harness the emergency management skills learned while running the IAFA into the ground, so how does America rate him?
25% give him a 1
5% give him a 10
(remember what I said about 5% giving a 10 for everybody?)
Overall for the Director:
Bad - 44%
Average - 29%
Good - 20%
Next up is General Honore. One of the men on the ground who seems to have a clue on how to do his job.
6% give a 1 to the General
14% give the General a 10
Overall:
Bad - 13% (the lowest for anybody)
Average - 28%
Good - 42% (the highest for anybody)
And next up is the President himself. George Walker Bush.
35% of Americans give the President a 1.
13% of them give him a 10.
Overall:
47% say "Bad Job, Mr. President"
20% say "Average Job, Mr. President"
32% say "Good job, buddieee"
Bush scores the highest "Bad Job" score, proving that the customers blame the boss over the employees.
Overall, SUSA gives the following average scores to the figures mentioned
Gen. Honore: 6.8
Barbour: 6.4
Nagin: 5.7
Blanco: 5.2
Bush: 4.7
Chertoff: 4.4
Brown: 4.3
SUSA isn't done yet! Oh no.. here are some more questions
Fire Chertoff?
48% say yes, 42% say no
Fire Brown?
53% say yes, 40% say no
Well.. it appears that while Bush gets a huge bad job rating, he manages to look better than the two hacks he hired. I'm sure he's proud.
I would go into the internals, but I don't want someone to beat me to diarying this story.
I hope I presented an entertaining look at poll numbers. So yeah, that's all.
