There was a recommended diary today by dkos user bluesky entitled, "George Lakoff - Republicans winning Katrina framing".
In it, I found the following statement which was quoted from Alternet (a piece by Lakoff):
Unless the real truth is told starting now, the American people will accept it for lack of an alternative. The Democratic response so far is playing right into Bush's framing. By delaying a response for fear it will be called "partisan," the Democratic leadership is allowing Bush to frame the tragedy. And once it is framed, it is hard to reframe! It is time to start now.
Lakoff is absolutely right. Democrats need to stand up now and reframe.
And here's your chance to ask the DCCC to do that - tomorrow, the Executive Director is holding an online chat at 4 PM EST. You're invited to submit questions then or behorehand starting at 10 AM EST tomorrow.
more below...
Here's the e-mail from the DCCC for those of you not subscribed to the list:
When Congress left for recess in August, nobody could have known what they would return to. Now they are back, and although there is unprecedented national unity in support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, Congress will face sharp choices in how to best help the survivors get back on their feet - and how to move our country forward with the lessons we have learned.
I will be holding an online chat to answer your questions on the massive range of issues that now stand before us. Join me Tuesday at 4:00 PM Eastern (1:00 PM Pacific), and submit your questions then or beforehand starting at 10:00 AM Eastern (7:00 AM Pacific) here:

Also, I'm hoping to discuss our recruited candidates, the strategy for the next elections, and other issues that are important to you. The balance of power in Washington has profound effects on every facet of our lives.
I'll do my best to address your questions and concerns across the board.
Again, the chat will take place on Tuesday at 4:00 PM Eastern (1:00 PM Pacific), but you can start submitting questions at 10:00 AM Eastern (7:00 AM Pacific) - hope to see you there:

Executive Director, DCCC
Use this opportunity to ask the DCCC why the caucus isn't standing up and going after Bush hard. Tell the DCCC: the timidness has GOT to end. The caucus has heard Lakoff before: my own Rep., Jay Inslee (D-WA) told us that they've heard Lakoff. This is something they have got to understand.
They MUST stop listening to consultants in DC and listen to us! We need Democrats who are PATRIOTS - willing to stand up and ask the tough questions in the face of the Republican Noise Machine.
Lakoff is right. The impact of Katrina will soon be lost on our fellow Americans. This is happening NOW - and it can be prevented.
Ask Democratic congressional leaders to stand up. If they do, we've got their backs. But they need to stand up!
