So this will be my chance to ruminate. I've never been quick to see political machinations until well after they happen (or until some artful speculation on this site enlightened me). But it certainly seems there is a definite political purpose behind Karl Rove's appointment to head up the Katrina reconstruction, and I'm not referring to cronyism or fundraising.
What is that purpose? Keep reading, please...
We continue to hear
rumors that the Fitzgerald investigation is nearing a conclusion. Earlier in the investigation, just before Cooper testified and Time released his emails, Rove gave that infamous speech where he
blasted liberals for their response to 9/11. Remember? Several diaries on this site predicted he was trying to stir up the base because bad information was on the way. Sure enough, the Cooper testimony came shortly after.
Could this not be a similar effort to prepare for bad news? Perhaps Bush has stuck Rove into this public position of reconstruction with a desperate hope to add a touch of humanity and compassion to a man nearing all sorts of legal trouble. Maybe they're trying to boost Rove's image in the public eye to shield against the negativity sure to hit the front pages. If someone else here has already suggested this, I apologize. But all the coincidences have me wondering over and over:
Could this appointment be a precursor to indictment?
