On Sunday, September 25th, there will be a mock trial of Rumsfield, Gonzales and Tenet. My understanding is that Martin Sheen will portray Donald Rumsfield. If you are in the D.C. area this weekend working with Cindy Sheehan, you might consider registering for these events, too, and attend as many as you can in concert with protesting the illegal war in Iraq.
The right to be free of torture is one of the most fundamental human rights recognized by the global community today. In the United States, torture has been deemed abhorrent to our values and legal principles since the framing of the constitution. Patrick Henry himself spoke passionately on the subject, insisting that the rack and the screw were barbaric practices which must be left behind in the Old World, "or we are lost and undone."
Details below the fold:
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is the sponsor of this interfaith conference in Washington D.C. on the topic of United States government's sponsorship of torture. A full agenda is planned for the 24th, 25th and 26th. The event is "Call for Justice Weekend". On Saturday, Sept. 24 a number of workshops on the history of U.S.-sanctioned torture, as well as the legal, policy, and security issues will be offered. On Sunday, Sept. 25 the big event will be a day-long formal mock trial of the U.S. officials who authorized and order the torture of detainees during the current War on Terror. On Monday, Sept. 26, there will be Congressional visits to Capitol Hill.

Please, also, take the time to email C-SPAN and ask them to cover the mock trial. You can email c-span and suggest events at events@c-span.org So far I am very dissappointed in c-span. They seem willing to cover AEI and Heritage Foundation events all day long, but they are not covering events from progressives and liberals. Please ask c-span for balance in what it covers. Thanks.
