Yes thats right. The University Of Texas at Austin is actively lobbying to host the GW Bush Presidential Library. Ya can't make this stuff up.
More below.........
"The University of Texas System today unveiled a proposal to host President George W. Bush's library and museum that suggests three possible sites, one in Austin and two in Dallas.
The local site would be the UT-Brackenridge tract along Lake Austin Boulevard, just west of MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1). The other sites are a downtown property in Dallas and the campus of UT-Dallas.
UT System officials also proposed a secondary site at UT-San Antonio to serve as a high-security conference center for world leaders and scholars."
Scholars!!!!!. Think they would get within a hundred miles of this?
"Donald Evans, a former commerce secretary, and Marvin Bush, the president's brother, sought the proposals on behalf of the president and first lady Laura Bush. Thursday is the deadline for submissions. Several other universities and colleges in Texas, as well as the City of Arlington, are expected to submit proposals."
Ahhhhh I see major construction projects in your future Mr. Evans, and Marvelous Marvin.
So I had to submit a letter to the Austin American Statesman newspaper.
"George W, Bush Presidential Library at U.T.???!! You have got to be kidding? That's like hosting the Bill Clinton Presidential Nunnery! Why in the world would ANY university much less the University of Texas actually lobby to be the site of what will most assuredly be a laughing stock? Lets set aside for the moment the oh so obvious point that Mr. Bush is proudly ignorant, doesn't read very much, disdains scientific thought, and is arguably one of the most intellectually challenged presidents in history. The main point being; he IS NOT A TEXAN, nor alumnus of U.T. His disdain for Austin, its roots and culture was barely concealed while he was governor. However if the University in its great wisdom decides to allow this folly, let me be the first to contribute to the library, the most famous of Bush's achievements in literature : The daily sports page, The Central Texas vacationers guide, and "My Pet Goat" "
Ok, Ok I know its was a bit snarky, and WAY to obvious, but i had to get in My Pet Goat somehow. It wouldn't be a GW Bush Library joke without it, no matter how obvious it is. My wife bet me $20 they won't publish it, unfortunatly I think she has pretty good odds on this one.
All you Longhorns out there better get some calls in to the alumni association on this. It would be an excellent slap in the face to have UT turn them down.
