As the liberal and moderate factions of the National Democratic Party continue to bump heads, I am convinced that the Democratic Party will not gained a majority in Congress or the Presidency in my lifetime or my childrens lifetime. The splits maybe too deep to form any type of coalition to defeat Republicans. The sides are too entrenched. The leaders don't know which way to turn. What I am talking about, there are no leaders.
Despite the failure in Iraq, inept leadership during Katrina, rich get richer policies, deficits, etc....a failed presidency, there is not a cry for a Democrat to be in President. I don't hear anyone saying a Democrat would do better, except maybe Bill Clinton. (Although I know Kerry would have been a good President. The same goes with Congress). The leftwing of the party has hijacked the spotlight and basically singled out moderates as the reason for the party's failures. Therefore if any "reasonable" democrat votes anyway other the extreme left believes he should, then he is no longer allowed in the party.
So now Max Baucus and Patrick Leahy have joined the Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Diane Feinstein and Joe Biden wing of the party. Wow. So Leahy is now a DINO?? These are politicians who did not get the guideline on how to vote in the Senate from Kos, and other leftwing "interest groups". Thank God for Boxer and Kennedy...can always count on them to carry the torn, overused, outdated, ineffective, divisive banner of the liberal left. I go over to redstate.org and read the absolute nonsense coming from the Conservatives, only to be equally astonished and saddened at the rhetoric coming from Kos.
The cries for the party to move further left, are absolutely ridiculous. Why would you want to streamline the Party into a corner and discriminate against those of us who are more moderate in our thinking? The Democratic Party is suppose to be a big tent. When you make the anti-war factions, or the pro-choice factions the centerpiece of the party, you then weakened the party as a whole. The Democratic Party more than the Republican Party, has to compromise within. The groups in the party are too diverse culturally, racially and socially, for rigidity to be a staple of the party. When we don't compromise, and come together with a sensible alternative to the dictatorship of the Right, we then regulate ourselves to useless protests, rantings, or hearings (Downing Report). The Cindy Sheehan movement when it was her alone, was effective and very moving. However, as soon as it became partisan(joined by Al Sharpton), then there went the effectiveness.
I believe this country is really tired of partisan politics, therefore they are not going to replace Delay with a Boxer or Kennedy. Outlets such as Kos, and other far left media outlets have given liberals a false sense of power. Every election cycle, these outlets predict democratic gains only to be scratching their heads afterwards. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to build strong candidates to replace the ones already in power.
My prediction is until the Democratic Party reaches some type of concensus on what type of party it will be or who really represents the party, then irrelevance will definitely become a reality. We've basically lost the guaranteed support of Union households, due to the apperance of being weak on defense, and gun control. Let's face it the only reason the majority of blacks, Latinos, and other minorities are in the party is because of the history of discrimination and racist attitudes of the Republicans. They are much more aligned with Republicans on cultural issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc. If Republicans make cracks in that armor and sooner or later they will, then what?
By the way...I don't hate liberals. I wish they wouldn't hate me and people who think like me.
