hi
I live in houston tx. Ive blogged here for years. my family has had a grueling experience with rita. trying to figure out where in the hell to go, the forcasts keep changing like every2 hours. no one here knows what to do that isnt on the coast.
here is what has been occuring as if most dont know (hah) people here are freaked out big time becuase of katrina, and so have I. at the last second this morning we decided not to flee west to san antonio out my instinct-good grief the state blew this. no contralofw in the am, not enough gas supply on filling stations etc-so masses of cars stalled, some with elderly with little water or food. I fear very shortly people will die on these roads. the hurricane seems to be veering east some-thank god. but this disaster may be man made-a state full of huge freeways, ittle rail options or contraflow plan. on the houston chronicle open forum a women just wrote this begging for all our help to get our govt to do something. Im emotionally already drained and now people's pets and lives may likely be lost sitting in 100 degree tx frwys. below is her plea and link. I called nbc local -they are very upset with the guv. this si a horror. a friend took 24 hours to get from hou to dallas. 24. what if rita really made its direct hit and we had to leave-we'd die on the road. this is an urgent natl emergency. another friend called me crying -12 hours from hou to san ann. 12 830pm to 830am. I hope we can really bump this post up-Ims cared now not of rita, but of the damn overheated freeways with little fuel provsions at gas stations. I mean god we all watched for days as this thing brewed towards tx. but alas, not enough fuel, contaflow not done earlier-and now nightmare. Im furious.
