Since entering my
first diary on autism on Sunday I have done more research into the situation surrounding the disease. I contacted someone a little more knowledgeable over at the
Natural Resource Defense Council because a few of the comments centered around the work of Robert Kennedy Jr. who heads the organization. First I want to point out that his work on Thimersol and mercury have no connection to the NRDC.
However the important issue here is corporate malfeasance and the role of Big Pharma in the exploding epidemic that is autism. Although thimersol (which contains mercury) was taken out of childhood vaccinations in the late 1990s the number of new cases continues its exponential rise.
So what is there to make of this? Did RFK Jr.'s research fail miserably? Was it a waste of time? I think not. See mercury is a neurotoxin as many people know. For example, because of that knowledge many are turning to digital thermometers instead of using those with the little silver-colored mercury balls.
So mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin, but so are many other chemicals in our daily life. I recently read a diary that comprehensively went over how aspartame (Nutra-Sweet, Equal, any other artifcial sweetener) has been labeled by the DoD as a neuro-toxin as well.
In our chemical crazed society there are plenty of dangerous items out there that 99.9 percent of people probably know nothing about. Jen Sass talked about how corporations wield so much power in government that they can put whatever they want on the market.
This is something that needs to be talked about more often and right away. Autism is one debilitating disease that is affecting our children. There are many other maladies caused by our obsession over the un-natural that rarely if ever is discussed in the MSM.
The facts speak for themselves. This is an explosive epidemic that needs to be dealt with immediately. I posted links on my first diary about this issue that highlights the organizations dedicated to finding the causes and eventually the cures of autism. One is Autism Speaks. If you can please donate or send emails to support legislation that funds the research we so dearly need.
