This may be the the best argument against the war. How is any country going to defend themselves from being the next Iraq? If Bush can fabricate a war against Iraq, then why not Iran?
Now Iran is pretty much on the path to having nuclear weapons, and there is really no way to stop them. I can fully understand their haste to get them, too. Despite what the UN rules, nuclear weapons in the Arab world are now inevitable.
This boils down to the two basic philosophies of foreign policy:
1. If we fight and make war with our enemies, we weaken them.
-or-
2. If we make war with our enemies, we force them to be stronger.
Blind rage and insecurity will lead us to one conclusion. Careful thought and understanding will lead us to another. It is similar to the overuse of antibiotics. The medicine only kills the weaker bacteria lets the stronger ones prosper.
Well, the same goes for national defense strategy. Fighting other countries will kill off the weak ones like Iraq, but it will serve to drive other countries to protect themselves...with nuclear weapons.
The final conclusion that we can come to after the Bush Presidency is that America is no longer the world's policeman. The final conclusion is that you have to protect your own ass...against America.
And the saddest part is, I spoke with a Bush supporter about this two weeks ago; I told him the very same thing. And he was happy about it. This is what Bush wants. This is what a good 40% of America wants. And this is what a lack of good education does to a nation.
