We currently have 505 detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who have been in custody for four years. There has not been a single person tried in Guantanamo for anything - and only four have even been charged with anything. Hundreds have been quietly released.
JAG lawyers assigned to defense AND prosecution teams have publicly rebelled and refused to participate in the kangaroo courts that Bush and Rumsfeld tried to set up.
My question to each of you is - What should we do with the detainees, and why?
I am writing my PhD dissertation in public policy and am interested to see if Americans even care about these people at Guantanamo. As a veteran, a lawyer, and the mom of a soldier, I am appalled at the Guantanamo gulag for an infinite number of reasons. I never much complaint or concern about it from people outside of the legal or military communities.
So, please...tell me what you think of the situation there, what should be done, and why. Thanks!
