All the main Dem players in the next election cycle are trapped by their votes and positions on Iraq. Dean's position is the most disappointing. Now that polls are turning against the war, he is running around telling everyone how he is rooting for the President to succeed in Iraq, when he should be telling us, 'I told you so'. The quagmire that we are in politically is that we have not set up a cogent political position in opposition to the warhawks. Here's how we do it.
We have to come out for the war, getting rid of Saddam and all that. Then we have to make the strident point that we are now against the occupation, that our troops are in danger and do the bad things like Abu Ghraib because we are in this occupation. And start voting against the appropriations bills.
