NOTE: I'm not Megan Matson --- but I am a MMOBster!
This was just posted at DFA's blogforamerica.com...
Happy Mother's Day everyone!
I'm Megan Matson, mother of three, founder of Mainstreet Moms, and a Dean-powered citizen like you.
On this Mother's Day, I still believe what I believed when we launched The MMOB's Adopt-A-Swing-State voter registration campaign just one year ago.
It is the mothers who have a tangible, physical connection to a common future, because their children will be there. For all but the noodle-brains waiting for the Rapture (like Calgon) to take them away, policy based on looting and apocalypse just doesn't work for us. We didn't sign OUR children up for a nation-breaking fiscal debt, the end of science, the wrenching of truth, a government of meanies, and the beginning of planned perpetual war. These crackpots always go too far, which is a comfort. And the moms (and honorary moms) are pissed.
More below the fold, including a photo of Megan and the kids + a new MMOB action called Leave My Child Alone!...
My daughter Cass was five weeks old, hunched on my shoulder like a little shrimp, when we first went adventuring to hear what a former Governor named Howard Dean had to say. His common sense, truth and conviction came through like a blast of clear, strong water after years in the murk. He said the things we all say around the dinner table, but it was clear he had the guts to stand up and do something. I said to Dean afterward, not knowing at all what I meant by it, "I'm going to go to work for you."

Two years later, our house is still a mess, our kids know more about elections than soccer, and I'm happy as a clam. Hooked, just like all the "Howard-Powered People" I've met and admired. There is no greater antidote to the darkness of the morning paper than a dose of action. Fellow mom and California for Democracy wondergirl Vicki Cosgrove, captured it well when she said, "I was a consumer. Now I'm a citizen."
This summer: Leave My Child Alone!
We're just launching (the HTML's still wet) a partnership with Working Assets I am completely excited about. Leave My Child Alone takes on a sneaky ingredient of the "No Child Left Behind" Act that strong-arms local high schools into turning over student information to military recruiters. Many parents have no idea this is even happening.
I hope you'll decide to add this action to your Meetups on June 1st. Just email Eden James, a DFA Meetup Organizer extraordinaire, for full info. We're developing a database of 12,000 School Superintendents, Opt Out forms, and backgrounders.
Other actions at The MMOB include our California creation titled Moms-to-Maria. We're urging Maria Shriver to "pillow talk" her husband out of his Special Election schemings.
Next up is Register-Don't-Recruit, a mom-created campaign that handholds you through registering kids on your local high school campus. And as soon as THAT dust settles and we catch up on the laundry (which could take a while), it's onto Election Reform, and an Energy action called Mercury-Free Schools. So join us, if you can, and please add your idears to our Yahoo! discussion group.
Thank you DFA, thanks to every blessed one of you still going, and going, and going, and happy, happy Mother's Day.
xoxoxo,
Megan
In 2004, MMOB volunteers sent over 500,000 personal letters with voter registration forms to unregistered single moms in key states. We welcome moms, dads, aunts, uncles, and progressive of every flavor (Republicans, Democrats, Greens, Independents, Decline-to-States and Plain Fed Ups) to join us in promoting education-in-actions for a sane future for our children.
