This diary is designed to allow anyone who has an action item to have a centralized place to place links to the diary or web page that contains more information on the action item.
This diary, and those I hope will follow, will work best if it is on the front page, but I can't do that.
Please limit comments such as "I did that," "action taken," and why we should, or should not, take action on the item too a minimum. We don't want 300 comments on the action items since that would discourage others from scanning the diary for action items.
Since this is a new proposed series I will give a brief history of some of the previous failed attempts at action diaries, along with a rant on why we need coordinated action.
I have been a member, in fairly good standing, since prior to the 2004 election and the biggest complaint I, and others, have observed is a lack of visibility for a majority of action items.
Lawnorder is currently producing a weekly roundup of action items, but this method is not receiving the attention it needs or deserves.
Most action item diaries fall very quickly off the radar and are forgotten. I did a series of diaries during the winter titled "This Week in Fascism" which included most of the action items from the previous week where action could still be effective. When I went to check if the action item diaries had received any responses after I listed them there was no sign anyone had taken additional actions.
Shetquaker produced 30 daily action item diaries in the early spring of this year which received at the most seven comments.
Just this weekend we had a type 2 GBCW diary from Mrdc due to his perceived lack of action on the part of us here at DailyKos.
This weekend there was two separate diaries my teresahill which asked for ideas on how to get more action out of the Kos community.
That is why the Kos Community needs to come up with a method of listing the multiple action items that come in most every day. If this diary was listed on the front page daily I believe it would greatly increase the influence we have on the political process.
This site is visited by a large number of people and if they were met daily with a list of things they could actually do I believe it would be not only a boon for the site but the Democratic movement.
Here are the last ten action diaries.
Important Individual Health Insurance Action Alert from abbyv
Please call or e-mail your members of Congress and urge them to vote against the Health Care Choice Act. It is important that members of Congress get this message loud and strong: This legislation would hurt consumers and make insurance unaffordable. It is the wrong choice for health care consumers.
U.S. Capitol switchboard: 202-225-3121 (then ask for your Representative's office)
To find the number for your Representative's district office, visit Congress.org and type your zip code in the box.
Tell Members this bill would result in:
More consumers with unpaid medical bills,
Higher premiums and unfair premium increases, and
Bare-bones coverage that does not include critical services like diabetes treatment and cancer screening.
For more info on the Health Care Choice Act visit Families USA.
Why dKosopedia Is Important and What We Can Do About It by
binkThe Internet public has given us the microphone. They are coming to the Daily Kos community -- and to dKosopedia in particular -- to hear what we have to say. Opportunities like this don't happen every day. We've got 7,500 visitors seeking political information on dKosopedia every day and we have an opportunity to provide them with information that reflects Liberal standards of fairness and accuracy and reflects the values of our community.
dKosopedia isn't languishing at all, after all.
But we're under-using it.
Resign, Mr. President by
Christian Dem in NCHowever, I believe impeaching him for this is the wrong course of action. A successful impeachment would throw off the balance between president and Congress. It would be grossly unfair to make future presidents suffer on Shrub's account.
However, the fact Shrub even considered this course of action makes him morally unfit for office. He and Cheney should resign, and resign immediately. We cannot afford to have an administration so grossly derelict of our nation's obligations as a civilized country.
Please sign this petition calling for these evil men to resign.
We are HOURS away from DISASTER by
waitingforlefty CAFTA comes up for a vote in the House of Representatives THIS WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2005.
CAFTA will be the law of the land if this vote succeeds. The U.S. Senate has already passed this odious piece of trade legislation. And President Bush is certain to sign it.
Do not allow this bill to join the bankruptcy law and class-action suit law as the worst failures for the left in 2005. Contact your congressperson before it's too late.

Liberal Values: Responding to the AIDS Crisis by
Renee in OhioOn Blog for America, Teri Mills (AKA National Nurse) has a guest column on healthcare every Friday. Today her column addresses the AIDS crisis in Africa, and I would like to add my voice to hers in highlighting this important, tragic, but often ignored issue. More details below the jump, but I'd like to put the action items right on top here so they aren't missed. Please consider doing any or all of the following:
-Add your signature to the One Petition
-Donate what you can to UNICEF's H.I.V/A.I.D.S. fund
-Help draw attention to this issue by sharing Teri Mills' column with others
ACLU Call To Action On The Patriot Act by
jollybuddahBut now would be a good time to take brief break from bingeing. Your country really does need you. Chances are, to be brutally honest, nothing you do over the next few days will make a huge difference either way with Rove or Roberts-not unless you have access to information that even Patrick Fitzgerald or the White House does not. But you can make a huge difference-as a citizen and as blogger-with the Patriot Act.
Patriot Act Reauthorization: It's NOT too late to act by
ThomHDon't believe the hype. The Patriot Act is neither yet reauthorized as law nor does it properly protect our civil liberties.
The House version must be reconciled with the Senate version (S. 1389:) before the bill can be submitted for signature into law by the President.
Quickly what's wrong with House version and how you can improve it.
My friend hit the street w/'Fire Rove" Posters by
Redbecca which includes links for you to get your own posters.
My friend hit the street w/'fire Rove" posters in Chicago and boy, did that work to build up the excitement....read on for a story of the American street's comments on Rove. This story suggests that the time is now for action on the ground, not just on the blog. Read on and add your own stories of street conversations if you've had them.
If anyone has any ideas for action or opportunities for their fellow community members to please post links below, and keep the chatter to a minimum.
At this time I would ask people not to place requests for campaign and organization donations with the exception of the current campaigns in Ohio, Virginia, and New Jersey.
