President Bush and Svengali Cheney testified (not under oath) in front of the 9/11 commission behind closed doors. The president said he felt the testimony ``helped them understand how I think... and how we run the White House.''
Now isn't that a scary thought.
Moderate Republicans, Democrats, independents and our European allies now see how the White House is run: with little deep thinking and no worldview.
As I was sitting there pondering Bush's words for a moment, an old Bob Dylan tune came over the airwaves, "With God on Our Side" and the line in the song that says, ...,but you don't count the dead when God is on your side". And with a little reflection and not much deep thinking, I came to the simple realization that we haven't learned much in 40 years.
But who has time to reflect these days? We have a war going on -- with no idea on how it is going to end. Tennyson knew;
Half a league, half a league
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
``Forward, the Light Brigade!
``Charge for the guns!'' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred....
Most of you know how it ends. Unlike our president, you may actually enjoy reading.
