From the front page Roll Call "New Contract" article:
"Among the proposals are: "real security" for America through stronger investments in U.S. armed forces and benchmarks for determining when to bring troops home from Iraq; affordable health insurance for all Americans; energy independence in 10 years; an economic package that includes an increase in the minimum wage and budget restrictions to end deficit spending; and universal college education through scholarships and grants as well as funding for the No Child Left Behind act."
Honestly, who does their writing? Or are they just so disempowered they really think in Republican terms?

My version:
"Among the proposals are: Bringing troops home from Iraq as soon as responsibly possible; universal health coverage; freedom from reliance on foreign energy; higher minimum wage and reduction of the deficit; and more funding for education."
Just some simple changes and suddenly we sound like a positive progressive party.
The problem with the way Pelosi's office has it is that all of our ideas are framed in reaction to the Republicans. That needs to change otherwise our rhetoric will have no pull or power, and be easily unplugged by those still controlling the conversation on the right.
I love that they are taking SOME initiative, but honestly, can't House Dems think for themselves? Of course they can.
Well, they need to start writing like they do.
