Rawstory has revealed the worst-kept secret in Washington: Representative David Dreier (R-CA) is gay, and it cost him the leadership of the Republicans in Congress. Initial spin was that Dreier was pushed out for his "moderate positions." Congressman Barney Frank's (D-MA) response to this wins the award for quote of the day: "Yes, in the sense that I marched in the moderate pride parade last summer and went to a moderate bar."
The mainstream media has refused to touch the story. Are they nobly protecting Dreier's privacy - or the rampant bigotry of the Republicans in Congress?
The issue at hand, Frank says, isn't whether Dreier is gay, but that a decision would be made based on perception of a congressman's sexuality.
"It's reflecting this review that gayness is so terrible that it's the unmentionable of unmentionables," Frank told RAW STORY. "I believe there are journalists who know this and won't say."
Incidentally, Dreier voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, but managed to miss the vote on the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. He said he would have voted against it.
