I was doing some research recently on media coverage of economic conditions during presidential campaigns and came across this gem from a NYT story that appeared on October 30, 2000:
"Mark Fabiani, Mr. Gore's deputy campaign manager, took issue with those who argued that the vice president should dwell more on the past.
"I can understand the frustration of people," Mr. Fabiani said. "But at the same time, everyone has to understand that Al Gore will be elected based upon his vision of the future. People naturally are going to give him credit for the last eight years. It doesn't help to be standing up and taking credit for yourself."
I like Wesley Clark and think he has potential to be a strong candidate. But I can't for the life of me understand why he has Mark Fabiani on his staff. Fabiani and his "without Clinton" approach to the 2000 campaign can be blamed for Gore's loss more so than voting irregularities or "Clinton fatigue."
