Did you see the latest poll numbers? Despite Tom DeLay's spin machine kicking into crisis mode with a well-documented media blitz, DeLay continues to lose support among Texans who live in his district.
According to a SurveyUSA poll commissioned by Houston's KPRC-TV that was conducted this week, 40% of DeLay's constituents believe he should now resign from Congress -- the highest number recorded since polling began 5 months ago.
Tom DeLay's media make-over clearly isn't fooling the people of TX-22. But you and I know that the only poll that truly matters won't come until Election Day next year -- and we've still got a lot of work to do.
What this week's poll does tell us, however, is that people in Southeast Texas are ready for a change. These Texans want a Congressman who will spend more time working for his constituents than raising money for never-ending legal battles and ethics investigations.
Tom DeLay has already begun running an extensive and expensive program of paid phone calls into TX-22. He has also undertaken an aggressive media blitz in local and national media. Yet, as this poll shows, his efforts have not paid off, and his popularity continues to decline. According to this poll, even a quarter of Republicans think he should resign!
With his paid phone calls and highly publicized media blitz, the former Majority Leader should have had better results in this public polling. Even staying flat would've been better than losing ground.
Clearly, the lesson here is this: the more Southeast Texans see of Tom DeLay, the less they trust him. This race is shaping up to be a tough one for DeLay, and Nick Lampson is the candidate who can bring change to this district.
Make sure you let everyone you know that Tom DeLay is in trouble, and if you haven't, please join our campaign. Thanks so much for your help and support!
