I have held my tongue for long enough and its time for some of you to catch a lashing.
Most of you know that I do not currently support Howard Dean. I have my reasons but that doesn't preclude me from contributing my hard earned cash, my vote or the cost of shoe-leather busting my hump to get Dean elected if he is the nominee. I cannot say the same for many who regularly post on this site. These so called Democrats who out of one side of their mouth ask that all Democrats get in line behind Dean; state firmly that they will sit on their hands, do no work, and possibly vote for someone other than the Democratic nominee if it is not Dean. You, yes this is my digital finger pointing menacingly at your face, are the real danger to the Democratic party. You must remember that the DLC, the Insiders, Joe Lieberman or your scapegoat du jour and people like me have been fighting while you were sitting on the sidelines watching West Wing. They adapted to the realities of low voter turnout, no money and increasing Republican strength on the ground. If this meant moving to the right... so be it. You do what's necessary to get elected so you can accomplish some real good in the world.
Strangely, these types are really very typical Americans. For them it is easier to destroy something, throw it in the trash and purchase the latest new thing on their credit card than fixing and preserving the old. For them their attention span need last only so long as to cause a little drama and if it goes wrong its NEVER their fault.
Hold on many will say: "We ARE trying to fix it and that is what Dean's candidacy is all about."
That may be true for most Dean supporters. But when I hear tirades against the latest Democrat to criticize Dean I am ashamed to count you as a fellow Democrat. You demonize them, call them traitors and worse equate them with the Republicans.
An even more disturbing tactic is emerging from some members of the Dean wing. "We don't like Candidate X so lets get rid of him or her. Lets organize a primary challenge against them because they have dared to criticize Howard Dean." You wonder why so many people on this site think your a Green: because you want a revolution or a civil war for the pathological reason that you revel in the excitement and chaos it creates but when it all comes back to haunt you in the worst way you cannot take responsibility for what you have done. No wonder people think you are little children. Politicians lead very hard lives. They are public servants who on average work 18 hour days for less than many of them could earn in private life. They could also live lives that are not under 24 hour scrutiny where every personal and professional failing is blared to the world. And you have the audacity and the arrogance to call them evil.
The truth is this campaign cannot hold a candle to the negative tone and tenor of past primary races. What angers so many Democrats is the tone that the rookies take. We think how much easier it would have been to stick to Democratic principles if you folks hadn't been sitting on your ass for the last 30 years content to ignore your civic duty so long as you had a decent job. And now YOU want YOUR party back!
You want to blame everyone but yourself for the problems in the world. You want to blame what you see as an ineffectual Democratic party when if you had only given 20 hours a year you could have made a world of difference and we will never get that back. Blame the Democratic party for not inspiring you but blame yourself for not giving a damn until just now...
You ready for your whupping yet... I'm waiting with a paddle that says Real Democrat on it.
