This follows Chairman Dean's lead in spreading the word to mainstream America about what President Bush (41) said about the outing of CIA agents. He was speaking at the Dedication Ceremony for the George Bush Center for Intelligence (CIA World Headquarters) on April 26th, 1999.
Most of you have seen this quote several times over in the past few days -- but it's not yet a mainstream America tidbit -- and it needs to be. I composed this layered image to try to evoke some of the emotional power of seeing President Bush speaking strongly on-point to CIA employees, senior officials, former Directors and Deputy Directors of Central Intelligence -- about the need for MORE PROTECTION for CIA human sources -- who risk their lives for their country. I believe that seeing the quote... (cont'd)
"I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors"
in its
extended context of that event could register more easily with mainstream America.
Note that there is no social commentary or badmouthing of GWB. It's all inferred. This is important because we need to spend more time adapting our messages toward swing voters -- not other progressives (we've already got them). And one key lesson from this past Presidential campaign season is that heavy-handed Bush-bashing was the quickest way to close off minds to being the slighest bit receptive to whatever message you are trying to convey. (go back and see some of the MoveOn ads with that obnoxious voice-over guy that they still use! -- with such taglines as: "George Bush. He just doesn't get it." ... I made this comment yesterday: No. MoveOn just doesn't get it. It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.)
