The NYT AP page carries a story from Sydney, Australia, about an electronic toy chicken manufactured in Taiwan and widely available down under.
Choke the chicken and it squawks and flaps its wings. Australians take their sense of humor seriously.
The AP story focuses on groups criticizing the toy, and they have a point -- a four-year old child who learns to enjoy choking his or her chicken might want to try the family cat.
But...
But what if the choking chicken were a Dick Cheney doll or an Ann Coulter doll?
The Australian company, Jaycar Electronics, sells the Choke-A-Chicken for $29.95, about $22 U.S.
That means Jaycar buys them for about $8-$10, and they might buy as few as 1,000 at a time.
So. If a $19.95 Choke-a-Cheney (Dick, of course) doll were available on the Internet, would you buy one?
Imagine grasping your battery-powered Cheney around the neck -- you'd probably have to use your fingers -- and squeezing until his arms and legs flap and he growls out his famous... what was it Cheney said to Sen. Leahy?
How about a Choke-a-Coulter doll? (Choke) "Invade their countries!" (Choke) Kill their leaders! (Choke) "Convert them to Christianity!"
Choke-a-Bush?
Choke-a-Pope?
Choke-a-Hannity?
