Divide and conquer, divide and conquer. This phrase must be tattooed backwards on Karl Rove's head in a special ink that only he can see when he looks in a mirror. We see it at work constantly, the Schiavo case being the latest incarnation. And now, in deference to the 11th defining characteristic of fascism (disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts) comes this quote from a Pennsylvania minister expressing his support of a local school board's decision to promote Intelligent Design:
"Christians are a lot more bold under Bush's leadership, he speaks what a lot of us believe," said Mummert.
"We've been attacked by the intelligent, educated segment of the culture," he said, adding that the school board's declaration is just a first step.
Unfreaking believable.
We have reached a new low in this country when a person in a position of leadership would actually say something like this in public, casting aspersions on intelligence and education. Karl's strategy is working, distracting the masses with such circus while corporatists gut the nation. The persecution complex that this breed of evangelical xtian is steeped in was ripe for exploitation. Don't let the Schiavo backlash fool you; there is still plenty of political mileage to be wrung from these people.
